Four to Six Weeks Before Moving
- Look through the CMSN smart search system to find professional movers in your area. Call them with the details of your move to obtain quotes.
- Collect security and advance deposits on rentals and utilities.
- Sort through all of your belongings and clean out all items that can be thrown away or donated.
- Notify all service providers of your moving date and schedule the transfer or cancellation of their services.
- Change your address at the post office and with any services you’ve subscribed to. Send your new address to anyone you receive mail from.
- Make your own inventory of items that need to be moved so that you can easily keep track of your belongings.
- Research and visit the schools in the area of your new home and have your child’s records transferred.
- Assess whether your current appliances can be used in your new home. For example, you should not bother bringing gas appliances to a home that runs only electric appliances.
- Have upcoming deliveries sent to your new home.
- Retrieve all belongings from school, gym, and office lockers.
- Pick up prescriptions and have medical records transferred to a doctor in the area of your new home.
- Transfer any items stored in a safety deposit box to one in your new area.
